Members of the Lafayette CO Chamber of Commerce

Strong Work Renovations LLC is a family-owned, licensed, and insured Class B General Contractor based in Lafayette, Colorado. Our Class B license allows us to renovate single-family homes, multi-family dwellings, and small commercial spaces. As a small, hands-on company, we take every project seriously, completing much of the skilled trade work ourselves. When needed, we collaborate with pre-qualified, licensed, and insured subcontractors. Quality is our top priority, which is why every project is directly overseen by at least one company owner.

Incorporated on April 26, 2017, after living and working in Boulder County for three years, we branched out from our work with local contractors to uphold a higher standard of integrity in residential remodeling. We are active members of the National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA), NTCA’s Women in Tile organization, and the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation (CTEF). Every project we take on adheres to or exceeds industry standards set by the International Residential Code, National Electric, Plumbing & Fire Codes (IRC, NEC, NPC), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and the Tile Council of North America (TCNA).

Our commitment to continuous training and education is crucial to our success. We actively collaborate with manufacturers of the products we install, attending workshops and training events to stay up-to-date on industry advancements and maintain strong relationships with local product representatives. Additionally, we are proud members of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) and closely follow the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), both of which help us stay connected to the latest trends and developments in our specialized industries.

Meet the Partners

Dawn’s journey in the construction industry began in her childhood in Chicago, where she was her dad’s “favorite” assistant. As she learned to measure, cut lumber, climb ladders, and haul materials, she unknowingly laid the foundation for a future career in home improvement. After high school, Dawn moved to Hollywood to pursue woodworking and set design, but the aftermath of the 1994 Northridge earthquake led her to pivot into ceramic tile installation and repair. Later, as a mother, she transitioned into a work-from-home career in web development and server administration. Over the next 20+ years, Dawn thrived in design, marketing, and creating business start-up packages for the attractions, tourism, and artisanal product industries. Upon becoming an “empty nester,” she returned to her roots in the remodeling trades, blending her business acumen with her passion for tile installation. She founded Strong Work Renovations LLC in Boulder County, CO, in partnership with her daughter and long-time friend, Jake.

Jake grew up in a semi-rural area of Eastern Virginia, where he was the kind of kid who could dismantle and successfully reassemble a motorcycle or car. It’s no surprise that he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech while simultaneously serving in the United States Army Reserves as a Combat Engineer. After graduating, Jake spent many years as a structural engineer and building project manager at Universal Forest Products. However, he quickly realized that working behind the scenes a desk was not the way he wanted to spend his energy. Seeking a more hands-on, physically active role in the trades, Jake transitioned to Colorado to work with his uncle’s Louisville-based construction firm. This shift from office work to home renovations and interior remodeling allowed Jake to combine his love for math and engineering with the technical demands of the job. He now manages the intricate details of our projects, provides home repairs, and taps into his artistic side through the craft of interior finishing.

Lex, a California native who moved frequently as a child due to her father’s work, gained her first hands-on home improvement experience as a pre-teen living on a single-acre homestead in the Smoky Mountains. After high school, she pursued her passion for travel and the service industry, quickly advancing and honing valuable leadership and management skills. In 2017, Lex took a bold leap and co-founded her first business—remodeling homes alongside her mother and now-business partner—while continuing to work in venue management and event hosting. Her early exposure to home improvement gave her a strong foundation, enabling her to quickly master tile installation, interior finishing, and painting. With a sharp eye for detail, she began handling solo tile installations and managing project punch lists in her first year. Now living in Longmont with her own family, Lex is committed to growing Strong Work Renovations LLC into a successful multi-generational business by streamlining operations, refining procedures, and providing administrative support. With her passion for service, leadership skills, and meticulous attention to detail, Lex is dedicated to building a company that delivers not only exceptional renovations but also personalized, professional service to each client.
